On International Day of Disabled People (Wednesday 3rd December 2025), we spoke with members of our Asking You! team about inclusion and what society could do to support people with learning disabilities to feel included.

Please read their thoughts below.

What does included mean?

Being included to me means not being left out and feeling like I can help society and people like me.

Can you tell us a time where you felt included or supported?

When I interview potential staff, Easy Read questions were provided. This meant I felt supported by my manager.

When I am invited to social events like the Pub and Club Night and included in social events in my housing. I like the welcoming atmosphere.

When I go to a men's group, I stop feeling like the one with the issues and start feeling like part of the community.

What could society do better to include people with a learning disability?

There should be more jobs for people with disabilities. This would help people to be included in the whole of the community.

Sometimes, people are worried about losing their benefits if you work some hours. This stops people from being able to work.
