Leeds Learning Disability Week 2026 is on from Monday 15th June to Friday 19th June! For that, we will be at a lot of events. Some of them are ones we are running. Others are being run by different services.
To let you know what is happening and when, we have a list of all those events in this blog post. It also has information on how you can get involved.
People’s Parliament – Council Chambers Takeover

- When is it: Tuesday 16th June, 10am to 12:30pm
- Where is it: Council Chambers, Leeds Civic Hall, Calverley Street, Leeds LS1 1UR
- What is it about: It is a special annual meeting of the People’s Parliament. Local councillors will be there to take your questions about how services can be better for adults with learning disabilities.

As part of our Travel with Confidence Project, we are running a bus journey from Advonet’s office at the bottom of Roundhay Road to the Civic Hall. We hope to get there in time for the Takeover and Learning Disability Pride March.
This is for anyone with a learning disability who would like to learn to use the bus independently. If you want to join us for that, please email us or call Advonet’s office.
Learning Disability Pride March

- When is it: Tuesday 16th June, 12:30pm to 1pm
- Where is it: It starts at the steps at Leeds Civic Hall on Millennium Square, then marches to the Corn Exchange
- What is it about: It is the march that happens after the Council Chambers Takeover and shows we are proud of who we are! It is being led by Connect in the North.
- How can I get involved: All you need to do is turn up in person!
Pub Night

- When is it: Tuesday 16th June, 6:30pm to 9:30pm
- Where is it: The Griffin, 31 Boar Lane, Leeds LS1 5DA
- What is it about: It is a special Pub Night for adults with learning disabilities, part of Learning Disability Week! The Pub Night is a relaxed event that will have things like games and karaoke. Tickets are £10 on the door.
- How can I get involved: To join, all you need to do is buy a ticket on the door. For any questions, please email us at [email protected].
To get to the Pub Night, our Travel with Confidence Project is running a Safe Walk for anyone wanting to join us! We will be meeting up at Leeds Bus Station and walking to The Griffin.

Being Social Marketplace

- When is it: Thursday 18th June, 11am to 2pm
- Where is it: Kirkgate Market, New York Street, Leeds LS2 7HY
- What is it about: This is an information event organised by Connect in the North. It has stalls for services working with adults with learning disabilities, including one for Advonet. The event is in the Market Kitchen area of Kirkgate Market, where the street food stalls are.
- How can I get involved: It is free to attend. All you need to do is turn up in person! You can go for as long or as little as you like.
Club Night

- When is it: Thursday 18th June, 6:30pm to 9:30pm
- Where is it: Popworld, 43 Cookridge Street, Leeds LS2 3AW
- What is it about: This is our monthly Club Night at Popworld for adults with a learning disability. There is a a Summer Beach Party fancy dress theme!
- How can I get involved: To get in, it costs £10 on the door. Carers/support go for free. For any questions, please email us at [email protected].

Picnic in the Park

- When is it: Friday 19th June, 11am-2pm
- Where is it: Temple Newsam Park, Temple Newsam Road, Leeds LS15 9EP
- What is it about: This event is a celebration to end Learning Disability Week. It has stalls, activities and more. Picnic in the Park is organised by Aspire CBS.
- How can I get involved: It is free to attend. All you need to do is turn up in person!
Safe walks and journeys to events
For the Council Chambers Takeover, Learning Disability Pride March, Pub Night and Club Night, we are doing supported journeys.
We will be getting the bus from Advonet’s office at Unity Business Centre to Leeds Civic Hall for the Council Chambers Takeover.
We also have details of the route from the Civic Hall to Kirkgate Market for the Learning Disability Pride March.
For the Pub Night and Club Night, we are doing safe walks to both from Leeds Bus Station.
